Social Concerns

Ministries of Social Concerns

Rooted in the Gospel and guided by Catholic Social Teaching, the Office of Life, Dignity and Justice consists of ministries that serve as a resource and advocate for the Catholic faith in parishes, schools and the greater community. These ministries uphold the dignity of every human person, protect human life and promote justice and peace throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta and beyond.

The Office of Life, Dignity and Justice includes the following ministries:

  • Disabilities Ministry supports accommodations and advocates for people with special needs. This includes the Office of Deaf Services, which provides interpreting services for sacraments and special events.
  • Justice and Peace Ministries provides support on all areas of social concern, including care of creation, human trafficking, immigration and poverty.
  • Respect Life Ministry advocates for the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.
  • Restorative Justice Ministry advocates for healing, reconciliation and community resilience, addressing issues such as criminal justice reform, racial justice and ending the death penalty. This includes Prison Ministry, which supports people who are incarcerated, their families and those impacted by crime.

These ministries, supported by the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, provide resources and workshops for parishes, missions and schools interested in learning more about these social issues and who want to start ministries at their locations.
