Catholic Campaign for Human Development
Established by the U.S. Conference of Bishops in 1969, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the Catholic Church’s domestic, anti-poverty social justice program. Its mission is to address the root cause of poverty in America through the promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and transformative education.
The CCHD Advisory Committee works with the CCHD diocesan director to consider grant applications, identify local community organizations that may benefit from a CCHD grant and advise on communication strategies to best promote and educate on the work of CCHD in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. It is made up of both clergy and laity that strive to represent the full diversity of this local church.
Review the Parish and School Grants section to learn more about the application process.
Second Collection
The national Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) second collection occurs annually in November and coincides with the World Day of the Poor. It is the only source of funding for CCHD grant and education programs, both nationally and locally. 25% of the collection funds parish and community grants within the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
Support the CCHD Second CollectionParish and School Grants
Parishes within the Archdiocese of Atlanta are encouraged to apply for the CCHD parish and school project grants to support projects that develop leadership, promote advocacy on issues related to poverty and to assist people to bring about change to structures that perpetuate poverty, marginalization and negatively impact integral human development.
These grants do not fund direct service projects. Parish and school project grants are available for up to $5,000. These grants can be paired with parish and school education/awareness grants, but the total amount received cannot exceed $5,000 with both grants combined.
CCHD parish and school education/awareness grants provide funding for parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of Atlanta to offer justice-based education/awareness programs on Catholic Social Teaching and the conditions and causes of poverty. Grants are available for up to $2,500.
Applications are now available for the 2025 CCHD local grant cycle. Please complete the interest form to receive an application.
