In the 1976 Supreme Court case Gregg v. Georgia, the Court decided that the death penalty was not unconstitutional thus ending the de facto moratorium that had been in place since the 1972 Furman v. Georgia decision.
In those 50 years, Georgia has executed 77 people. Throughout this 50th anniversary year, we encourage all communities to commemorate those lives lost and commit to saving those lives still at risk on Georgia’s death row.
